Eat from here for the first time, fantastic chicken shawarma with toasted pita bread, it did not disappoint. The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy, well-seasoned with just right amount of tangy spicy sauce and fresh salad. And Turkish tea at the end.

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to visit *Istanbul Kebab & Mangal*, located on Upper Tooting Road, with a friend. This was our first time trying this particular kebab restaurant, and we were curious to see how it measured up to the many other Turkish and Middle Eastern eateries we’ve tried across London.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were welcomed by polite and friendly staff who greeted us with a smile. This warm and professional reception immediately set a positive tone for the experience. The atmosphere inside was casual but clean and inviting, which made us feel comfortable while we browsed the menu.
After taking a few moments to look over the options, we decided to go for a classic choice the Large Lamb Doner Kebab. We placed our order and opted for takeaway. The preparation took approximately 15 to 20 minutes, which we found to be a fair waiting time, especially as the food was being freshly prepared.
Once we received our order and left the restaurant, we were eager to see how the food tasted. On opening the package, the kebab looked appetising and was accompanied by the usual salad and bread. The lamb itself was very juicy and flavourful, with a good balance of seasoning and tenderness. It certainly satisfied our cravings for a hearty, meaty meal. While it was not the absolute best Doner I’ve had in London. I have had better from a few other establishments. It was nonetheless a very tasty kebab that we both enjoyed.
That being said, I did find the portion size somewhat underwhelming for a ‘large’ kebab. Given the price we paid, I expected a bit more meat in the serving. The portion felt more like a medium size, and a little extra meat would have made the meal feel more generous and better value for money.
As for the salad and dressing they were unfortunately quite basic. The salad lacked freshness and creativity, and the dressing was quite plain. In comparison to other kebab shops that offer vibrant, well-seasoned salads with tangy dressings or yogurt based sauces, this felt like a missed opportunity to elevate the overall meal.
Service wise, I have no complaints at all. The staff were courteous and helpful, which made the experience enjoyable. Based on the service alone, I would consider returning to try other items on the menu. Next time, I might go for one of their mixed grills or specialty platters to get a broader sense of what they offer.
One important downside to note was the parking situation. Finding free parking nearby was very difficult, and paid street parking in that area is quite expensive. For those considering a visit by car, I would advise checking ahead for parking options or using public transport to avoid the hassle.
In conclusion, my first visit to Istanbul Kebab & Mangal was a mostly positive experience. While the food wasn’t extraordinary, it was certainly enjoyable. The kebab was flavorful, the service was excellent, and the overall environment was welcoming. Improvements could be made in the portion sizes and salad quality, and the parking situation is definitely a challenge. Still, I wouldn’t mind returning, especially to try different dishes on a future visit to Tooting.- Parking

Best kebab I've had in ages. Only a small one but hit the spot. Excellent ratio of meat to salad, fresh pitta and drizzling of chilli and garlic sauce. Enjoyed with a healthy ayran yoghurt drink. Staff were friendly, place was clean and tidy. Will be back!

Good food. Portions sizes are a bit small compared to other similar takeaway/resturant, but service was good, friendly staff.
